However, the stepfather is a peasant farmer who cannot afford to pay his school fees. His biological father is uneducated and does not value Marvin's education. Marvin is yearning to obtain his education, so he can have a better future and life. Once he graduates from high school, he would like to pursue a career in carpentry.
